Jerry Holbrook has found an interesting use for Buckeyes. According to folklore, carrying a buckeye in your pocket will help arthritis. The Native Americans wore them around their necks for good luck. Jerry looked at the whimsical side of these folklore tales and made jewelry and key chains from Buckeyes.
Jerry likes Buckeyes and finds them very interesting. He has a variety of necklaces, bracelets, earrings, pins, key chains and even some buckeyes with “eyes” on them!
Buckeyes are native to Southern Ohio, but there aren't many buckeye trees around anymore. Buckeyes are poisonous, and many trees were cut down to keep the cattle from eating them.

The wood from a buckeye tree is lightweight, non-splitting and easy to carve. The early settlers used this wood to carve utensils and to weave hats and baskets. The name Buckeye comes from the Native Americans. Because of its brown color, the light brown center, and the glossy shell, it looks very similar to the eye of a buck deer.
Jerry has sold Buckeye Jewelry to buyers in several states and the Dominican Republic. His buckeye jewelry is sold in many local establishments in the Tri-County area. “I've been playing with these buckeyes for 6-7 years. I just love them and no two are alike,” says Holbrook.
