Appalachian Resource Center

The mission of the Gateway to Appalachia Resource Center is to provide information on the culture, literature, art, history and natural resources of the Appalachian region.

The Gateway to Appalachia Resource Center was started in 1999 under the direction of Mary Ayres, LRC Manager at the South Campus of Southern State Community College and Louis Mays, Librarian of Southern State with the help of Joy Padgett from the Governor’s Office of Appalachia and under the advisement of Arts and Cultural Consultant Michael London, the Management Team, and the Governing Council of the Appalachian Gateway Center.

The Resources Management Team has compiled a local Appalachian cookbook. It is available in the Gift Shop, or can be ordered by contacting Mary Ayres.

Collection

Books and audiovisuals circulate for 3 weeks. A courtesy card is issued in order to check out materials. For more information see the college web site at lrc.sscc.edu or contact Mary Ayres at mayres@sscc.edu.
